Cookery Lessons

Have fun learning to cook!

After 15 years of professional cooking and catering, it’s time to share my knowledge and know-how with the introduction of small group (maximum 6 people) cookery lessons.  Focusing on healthy, nutritious food, my demonstration-based classes are informal, sociable & fun and I wholeheartedly encourage lots of questions!
I’ll share loads of handy tips, techniques and tricks of the trade as I demonstrate how to cook each class’s dishes.  You will take home detailed recipe sheets and ideas on how to adapt them for different dietary needs and tastes.  And you’ll get to taste the food either during the demonstration or at the end where you’ll sit down to enjoy a meal with your group.

Individuals who want to learn to cook or brush up on their skills can book onto my “Boss the Basics” courses, or why not get a group together for a “Create your Class” session where you can book a class of your choice at a date and time that works for you.  You can take advantage of group booking incentives, and if there’s someone in your life who you think would love to attend a class, you could treat them to a gift voucher.

“Ruth’s recipes are fuss free and full of flavour. Exactly what we all wish we could think of cooking.”

Boss The Basics:

If you’ve never learnt to cook properly or find that much as you love food and enjoy eating, cooking is an overwhelming task that often defeats you, then you’ll benefit from signing up to Boss the Basics.  These courses of 5 lessons spread over 5 weeks will teach you basic techniques to turn you into a fabulous and confident cook.

During each lesson, you’ll learn methods and skills that you’ll use again and again, with recipes that you’ll be able to adapt and modify as you grow in kitchen confidence.  Week by week, you’ll add new culinary building blocks so that eventually, when you read a recipe you’ll understand the method and be able to imagine how it will taste, look and feel, just as a musician can hear the sound locked in a piece of sheet music.

My fun and informal cookery lessons make a great group activity. They’re an ideal way to spend precious time with your friends, family, or even work colleagues while you learn new skills and eat yummy food.   During your class I’ll spend a couple of hours demonstrating the recipes we’ll be covering, before you and your group sit down at the table to relax and tuck into the food – with a glass of wine or two if you like!

My “Create your Class” sessions offer maximum flexibility: you can choose a date and time that works for your group as well as choose your class content and build a menu around your group’s preferences and dietary requirements. “A fabulous and sociable day with Ruth, learning shortcuts, easy and impressive store-cupboard recipes and inspiration for those evening meals when it always seems to be on repeat. We also got to taste the food which was, of course, delicious. A lovely experience and would definitely recommend.”

Ruth’s recipes are fuss free and full of flavour. Exactly what we all wish we could think of cooking. I will be cooking all of the recipes Ruth demonstrated in the class. They are delicious, practical for busy weeknights and best of all, now I know I’ll be able to make them.

Such a great opportunity to be inspired in the kitchen and to pick up some helpful hacks from a professional.

The lesson was relaxed, fun and informative. In such a small group everyone could ask questions as we went along and Ruth was very generous with the information and techniques she shared.

~ Laura, SW18

My ideas for what to cook were jaded – but not my palate! Over a few hours Ruth gave new ideas, recipes, fantastic top tips and most importantly – confidence to go out and cook again! She’s a brilliant teacher.

I liked the way we just watched the process and asked questions as they cropped up.

There is no substitute for seeing things live: smelling and tasting are so much part of the process. The final dishes looked as good as they tasted. This just can’t be garnered from a cookery book.

Five really delicious and different simple, inexpensive recipes which can be seamlessly incorporated into a new repertoire.  A gentle and hugely enjoyable culinary boot camp for tired cooks – I loved every minute.

Would hugely recommend going on this. Huge thanks Ruth!
